Among the greatest developments in conventional war since 1914 has been the rise of air/land power - the interaction between air forces and armies in military operations. From 1914, a great function of air power has always been its effect on ground combat, something fundamental to land warfare since 1939. This book examines the rise of air/land power and why British and American air forces handled it in a mediocre way until 1940, but by 1942 were leaders in the field. Moreover, it challenges the view that British and American air forces were less important and effective than their German counterparts.
