Vectorial Boolean functions are used incryptography, in particular in block ciphers. Animportant condition on these functions is a highresistance to differential and linearcryptanalysis, which are the main attacks on blockciphers. The functions which possess the bestresistance to the differential attack are calledalmost perfect nonlinear (APN). Almost bent (AB)functions are those mappings which oppose an optimumresistance to both linear and differential attacks.Before this work, only a few classes of APN and ABfunctions had been known and all these classeshappened to be extended affine equivalent (EA-equivalent) to power functions. In this work weconstruct the first classes of APN and ABpolynomials EA-inequivalent to power mappings byusing the equivalence relation of functions (whichwe call CCZ-equivalence) introduced by Carlet,Charpin and Zinoviev (1998). Then the constructedAPN and AB functions are used to solve other relatedproblems.
